WHAT IS THE WEBCAST ABOUT

This presentation will cover the latest advancements in non-destructive testing (NDT) and non-contact composite material measurement techniques that are being used in both laboratory QA and in-process QC. The actual realized benefits of using MWI Lab’s NDT measurement techniques are the implementation of high speed data collection method within composite material fabrications processes while measuring the dielectric properties of the actual deliverable parts. Increased material uniformity from <42% to >92%, reduction in test time from hours to minutes or seconds for in-process QC, reduction of sample preparation cost by tens-thousands and scrap rates 80% less than competitors destructive test methods, and reduced UHF / VHF sample size from square yards to square inches. Our unique equipment designs are lighter than most other NDT systems, allowing them to be easily shipped and used in remote locations. Our dielectric powder test method has the ability to contain a powder, soil, or aqueous solution within a well-defined RF dielectric containment fixture. Our fixturing greatly removes the uncertainty caused by the material’s shifting during measurement as well as reduces the requirement for direct contact between the test probe and the material being tested. Researchers at MWI Laboratories originally developed this unique test method for studying and improving quality control (QC) standards for obtaining the dielectric properties of ceramic powders and mud mixtures before they were fired in kilns to produce ceramic heat shields. Several years later the 16451B dielectric test probe combined with the MWI Lab’s PD-14 test fixture was modified and implemented using advance mathematical techniques “Morphology Modeling” processes. This detailed model allows the user to determine the level of uncertainty of the measured results and allows for a better understanding the detailed effects between the material under test, the wave form produced by the test probe, and the surrounding environment for performing QC of several powder substances for the Food and Drug industry.

Jeff is co-founder / co-inventory of MWI Laboratories and the unique RF test equipment. MWI Laboratories is a faculty-spinoff from Arizona State University (ASU). Where it was a research / teaching laboratory and service center for more than 7 years. It has been a growing stand-alone company for more than 3 years. Jeff has more than 31 years experience in the design, development, and implementation of unique RF composite material test methods for laboratory quality assurance (QA) and non-destructive (NDT) in-Process quality control (QC). Jeff is co-inventor on nine patents and another 3 pending which ranges from advance RF / EMI absorbing materials to non-destructive Gaussian Beam Polyrod antennas and Linearly Polarized Eddy current sensors.
