This panel of industry experts will examine the challenges to device design and device/system testing for 5G technologies such as mmWave/TeraHertz transceivers, massive MIMO, HetNets/small cells, CoMP, carrier aggregation, AESA radios, SDR, new modulation schemes, reduced power consumption and other technology issues related to next generation cellular communication systems.

5G Short Course - Flexible 5G mmWave Waveform Testbed and Active Device Characterization
This short course will present a new flexible testbed for 5G research which facilitates complex investigations of “what-if” scenarios. Co-existence between emerging 5G and legacy waveforms will be investigated. Wideband signal generation and analysis case studies at microwave and mmWave (including modulation bandwidths up to 2GHz) will be shown. Amplitude and phase corrections of wideband waveforms will be examined. In addition, the course will help engineers understand the architecture and features of non-linear vector network analysis (VNA) which enables the characterization of active devices at mm-wave frequencies. The course concludes with practical examples of mixer, gain compression, and spectrum measurements using a VNA with a 60GHz 802.11ad application.
