Can my 54600-series or 6000-series scope use channels 3 and 4 for XY mode or math functions?

These oscilloscopes can perform math functions such as FFT, integration, and differentiation on any analog channel or even on another math function. But they cannot use channel 3 or 4 for XY mode, addition, subtraction, or multiplication.

For XY mode, channel 1 is always the X input and channel 2 is always the Y input.

For math functions, the functions available are limited to:

1 * 2
1 – 2
1 + 2 (see note below)
FFT (any analog channel)
FFT (1 + 2)
FFT (1 – 2)
FFT (1 * 2)
Differentiate (any analog channel)
Differentiate (1 + 2)
Differentiate (1 – 2)
Differentiate (1 * 2)
Integrate (any analog channel)
Integrate (1 + 2)
Integrate (1 – 2)
Integrate (1 * 2)

Note: The 1 + 2 math function does not appear in the Waveform Math menu, but you can create an equivalent function by selecting 1 – 2 and inverting channel 2 (Press the 2 button and the Invert softkey).

For more powerful analysis capabilities, consider using an Keysight Infiniium scope. All models in the Infiniium family are able to perform a wide variety of math functions, including plotting any channel or function versus any other channel or function. Any of the four function waveforms can be used as operators for other functions.
