4G LTE-Advanced 是由 3GPP 开发的 LTE 演进版本,旨在达到或超过国际电信联盟(ITU)的要求,建立真正的第四代无线通信标准,即高级国际移动通信(IMT-Advanced)。3GPP 标准的 LTE-Advanced 在第 10 版及其以后的所有版本中定义(包括第 12 版)。LTE-Advanced 的重点是实现更高的容量,下行链路的峰值数据速率增加到 3 Gbps,上行链路增加到 1.5 Gbps;同时还要提高频谱效率、增加同时活跃用户的数量、改善信元边缘的性能,例如对于下行链路 2x2 MIMO 来说,性能至少为 2.40 bps/Hz/信元。

LTE-Advanced R10 的主要新功能包括载波聚合(CA)、多天线技术的增强使用、增强的上行链路以及对中继节点的支持(RN)。
